From its humble beginnings as the Farmers' High School of Pennsylvania to its current status as one of the nation’s premiere colleges, The Pennsylvania State University has come a long way since its founding in 1855.
Just take a stroll on its sprawling University Park Campus and through downtown
State College, and you’ll begin to see why. With 46,000 undergraduate students alone, there’s an energy here that can’t be matched anywhere else. That energy is on full display during a variety of athletic events on campus; whether you’re rooting for one of the school’s 31 NCAA Division I teams, or simply taking in a club or intramural sport, there’s always a way to keep active and entertained here.
But don’t get too distracted — especially if you’re enrolled in one of the school’s 18 colleges. The university offers over 160 majors, 200 minors and 100 undergraduate certificates; as well as more than 190 graduate major programs, several stand-alone graduate minor programs and 100 graduate certificate programs. The school also has two separately accredited law programs and a World Campus online learning program, perfect for those looking to earn a Penn State degree from the comfort of their own home.
For those who prefer classroom learning but aren’t in close proximity to the University Park campus, you’re in luck. There are 19 commonwealth campuses, meaning students in all corners of the state have access to a quality Penn State education. Noteworthy special mission campuses include the Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, which offers certificates as well as degrees in over 10 technical fields; and Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, the university’s medical school and teaching hospital.
With seemingly endless educational options, it’s hard to go wrong choosing a Penn State education … and it’s hard to go wrong choosing them as an employer, too! Penn State offers many excellent health-, financial- and professional growth-related benefits, including 75 percent off tuition for full-time faculty and their immediate family members. It’s no wonder that Penn State is a tradition for so many families!
And speaking of tradition and families, we’d me amiss not mentioning THON, the largest student-run philanthropy in the country, which aims to help children and families impacted by childhood cancer. Since 1977, THON has donated over $168 million to thousands of families across the state and beyond. These families are not only helped financially, but are welcomed into the Penn State community year after year, providing a welcomed distraction during their fight against pediatric cancer.
That works out perfectly, as distractions are easy to come by at Penn State — especially when you factor in all the area has to offer. The university is surrounded by the diverse community of State College, which, with the help of Penn State, offers amenities usually found only in larger cities. From its great nightlife to the amazing outdoor attractions in surrounding
Centre County, there’s something for just about everyone in "Happy Valley."
We’d welcome the chance to help make the Penn State community your own. Call us today with any questions you may have, or simply browse the links below for more information.
